Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed?

Sparky
(2002-2005)

Sparky joined the family while I was in Europe on a business trip. My wife would call me a couple of times a day, long-distance, to talk about this wonderful dog whose photo had been in a Humane Society email, and the fact someone had to save him. So, I decided it would be cheaper to have a third dog than to pay for all the international long distance calls explaining why I needed a third dog.

After all the work my wife put into rescuing Sparky, making sure he was healthy, and helping try to assimilate him into our existing pack, he decided he was my dog. This was fine, since by this point, Ripley had decided he was my wife's dog. Bubba just wanted to be left alone at that point.

In fact, somewhere about this time, when Ripley slept trying to push my wife off one side of the bed, and Sparky slept trying to push me off the other side, Bubba decided sleeping on the floor was a reasonable solution. I have almost joined him any number of times, although I have a feeling the dogs could figure out how to push me off the floor, as well.

Sparky left us a few years after we adopted him, but his spirit lives on with Sparky's Pals.
